Vihiga Queens inches away from league title

Vihiga Queens are one win from being crowned the new Kenyan Women Premier (KWPL) champions after trashing Gaspo Women 2-0 in a match played on Saturday at Stima Members Club in Nairobi.

Topister Situma and Immah Wangira scored for the western based club forcing a win a win which cemented their lead on top of the table to 47 points, 11 ahead of second placed Ulinzi Starlets while Thika Queens come third with 31 points.

Vihiga who are three times winner of the title will snatch the title from the current champions Thika Queens coming weekend if they manage a win against on form Zetech Sparks at the Mumias Sports Complex - something which the head coach Boniface NyamuNyamuh is optimistic will come to pass.

“I am very happy on how far my team has reached and it’s my prayer that we shall win our next match to be crowned the winners. I can say all this achievements has been out of resilience and hard work.

The team has been playing as per my instructions and I am happy that there is a lot of improvement in each and every day. I am hereby urging them to continue with the same spirit and even if we win the league early, that should not mean that they should relax. We have to push hard till the last game of the season.”

Elsewhere, Thika Queens climbed to third position after pulling a goalless draw against Ulinzi Starlets at Thika Stadium while Gaspo occupied position four after a 2-0 humiliation in the hands of Vihiga.

In Stima Members Club Nairobi, Joseph Sakwa coached side Kayole Starlets thumped Mumias based Wadadia 2-1 as Nakuru City Queens secured a slight 2-1 win against Trans Nzoia Falcons at the  ASK Showground in Nakuru.

Kangemi Ladies failed to overcome the relegation threat after falling 1-0 against Bernard Kitolo coached side Zetech Sparks in GEMS Cambridge in Nairobi.
