Vihiga Queens out to wrap up title as Zetech Sparks visit

Vihiga Queens will be crowned the Kenyan Women Premier League (KWPL) champions for the third time on Saturday if they win against Zetech Sparks at the Mumias Sports Complex, in Kakamega.

Vihiga top the league standings with 47 points and could build an unassailable lead over the second-placed Ulinzi Starlets who visit Trans Nzoia Falcons on Sunday.

In an interview with Citizen Digital, Vihiga head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu said they are well prepared to win their next match.

“We have been training hard since Monday and everything is well in my team. I have no any injury doubts and I’m going for nothing but a win on Saturday. We shall be playing at our backyard and that’s a plus for us considering the home advantage,” Nyamunyamu said.

Vihiga Queens is the most successful women’s team in the country having represented the East Africa Region in the inaugural CAF Women’s Champions League in Cairo, Egypt last year.

In other league fixtures, bottom-ranked Kagemi Ladies take on the holders Thika Queens while Kayole Starlets face Bunyore Starlets at the Stima Members Club.

Sunday’s fixtures will see 10th placed Kisimu All Starets host Nakuru City Queens at the Moi Stadium Kisumu, Trans Nzoia Falcons will play Ulinzi Starlets at the ASK Showground, Kitale while Wadadia will squire it out with fourth placed Gaspo at the Mumias Sports Complex.
