Vihiga Queens star players cross fingers over potential move to Europe
Despite
bowing out of the CAF Women’s Champions League, Vihiga Queens players hope that
they will land lucrative deals in Europe after some eye-catching displays in
their first two group matches.
Vihiga
were kicked out after a 4-0 defeat in their last group match against River
Angels of Nigeria on Friday at the 30 June Stadium.
The
Charles Okere coached side garnered only three points to finish bottom in Pool
B, behind River Angels, Asfar of Morocco and Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa
who topped the group.
In
an exclusive interview with Citizen
Digital, Giscard Kana, an English agent confirmed that they are in talks
with few Vihiga Queens players for a possible move to teams abroad.
"Vihiga
played very well despite them being knocked out of the championship. I have
spotted a number of players like Jentrix Shikangwa, goalkeeper Lilian Awuor among
others who really impressed.
I
can't reveal exact number of Vihiga players I am opting to sign but I can
confirm that talks are at the advanced stage and probably within one week we
shall reveal the deals once done," he said.
Kana
however urged the Kenyan Government to sort out its difference with the
Football Kenya Federation saying it may hinder the deals.
"In
case of a FIFA ban to Kenya football it means all these deals may go to waste.
I am pleading with the Government of Kenya to sort their issues with the
Federation. Players shouldn't suffer due to personal differences."
The
players have however expressed their desire to play professional football if
the deals will favour them.
"I
was personally contacted by the agents who were impressed by my services. We
are in talks with the agents through my team's management and it's something
which I am looking forward to," said striker Shikangwa.
Her
counterpart Lilian Awuor who was picked as the best player in their match
against Mamelodi said her aim is to play abroad.
"The
tournament is over yes but for me I am very positive that I will land a deal in
Europe. I have heard agents mentioning my name and the coach also hinted
something of the sort so I am really praying for that chance."
The
first batch of the Vihiga Queens returned to Kenya Sunday night while the
second and last batch is expected to travel back today.
The
team however gained valuable experience from the tournament, and had time to
visit Pyramids in Giza area of Cairo.
