Vihiga Queens’ coach, Boniface Nyamunyamuh has appointed
Marceline Wayodi as the stand-in captain in the absence of Enez Mango, who is
away on a two-month trial in Norway.
Nyamunyamuh says Wayodi’s aura has earned her teammates’ respect
since joining the team just over a year ago from Kisumu All-Starlets.
“Wayodi has natural leadership skills in her. When she talks, all
her teammates listen to her. The girls trust her enough to give her
the burning issues to tell the technical staff. I can categorically say that
upon meeting the players this morning, we decided to appoint her stand-in
captain.”
Nyamunyamuh has challenged Wayodi to lead by example, as Vihiga
prepares to defend their Kenya Women Premier League title next season.
“She is like a coach on the pitch. As a teacher by profession, she
has that capability to interact and relate with people from different
backgrounds. She injects confidence into her teammates and is adept at calming
situations down.”
Meanwhile the coach has urged the Government and the Football
Kenya Federation to speed up the process of readmission to international
football by FIFA.
“ We have no time. The league should have started on the 23rd this
month but it didn’t because of the current leadership hiatus at FKF,” he said,
“We are not even sure when it will begin. The situation should be solved
quickly because it is making it difficult to keep our best players,”
Phelisters Kadari and Maureen Ater were other prospects for the armband,
after Mango's exit.
