We are going for AFCON ticket Amenga

Kenya  football U-17 team head coach Michael Amenga is targeting an AFCON slot as he prepares his charges for their CECAFA opener on Tuesday, against South Sudan in Tanzania.

Amenga is hopeful that their  last result in the CECAFA tournament where they finished fourth will inspire them to do better, stating the camp has settled well and is ready to conquer the region.

At the same time, he says that they have had adequate preparations that will enable them to put up a spirited fight for a ticket to the major show-piece.

“Each and every member of the team understands what we are aiming for. In April, we finished in fourth position at the CECAFA tournament so in these qualifiers we want to go further than that but sealing an AFCON slot is what we are focusing on  for now,” Amenga told Citizen Digital.

“We are looking forward to the tournament. The players are in good shape, they have trained well and have the desire to register good results so as to represent the country well,” added Amenga.

Eighteen players have traveled to Tanzania for the qualifiers which gets underway on Saturday. Kenya has been drawn in group B alongside Southern Sudan, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Uganda.
