Xavier backs Mara to bounce back from weekend loss
National Super League sophomores Mara Sugar
head coach Francis Xavier has rallied his charges to shrug off their loss to
joint league leaders Shabana last weekend when they face fellow strugglers
Gusii FC on Wednesday at the Gusii Stadium.
Xavier was critical of his side’s profligacy
in front of goal that condemned them to their first loss of the season after
four outings.
The former AFC Leopards skipper is confident
they will stage a better show against Gusii in who trounced former FKF-Premier
League side Vihiga United 9-1 on Sunday.
“We struggled to match Shabana’s tempo because
of their experience and work rate. I also felt we were unable to convert the
chances that came our way unlike them who scored two goals (one ruled out for
offside) out of the few chances that came their way.
“I expect my players to respond against Gusii
as a mark of their willingness and determination to bounce back from such
setbacks.”
Xavier has reiterated their determination to
have a successful campaign this season despite their indifferent start.
“We have a long way before the end of the
season and I feel we have enough time to get our season back on track.
“Our ambition is to be among the best teams in
the division and such a feat will only materialize if we work hard and continue
to learn from our mistakes,” he added.
The Awendo Green stadium-based side finished
13th last season on 40 points, seven within safety.
