Zetech draw even to force Game Three with Strathmore

Zetech University outscored Strathmore University 52-45 to put their quarter-final basketball series back on the balance after they had gown down 52-50 in last week’s opening game.

It appeared Strathmore would seal their semis slot with a two-game sweep after racing to a 24-22 halftime lead but Zetech rallied to win it and leave the tie to be decided in Game Three on Sunday.

Coach Maurice Obilo lauded her charges for their inspired second half show at the Nyayo Stadium Gymnasium and said lack of composure had nearly cost them.

“Were feeling the heat especially when we lost in the first half but in the second half my players settled, got composed and pushed harder for the win,” Obilo said.

The youthful tactician pointed out that he is coaching a team of inexperienced players who tend to perform poorly under intense pressure.

“My team is made up of very young players who are students. I’m not going to put pressure on them ahead of tomorrow’s match because it may crush them,” Obilo averred.

Lynda Kimemia, the Zetech captain, said mistakes had cost them in the opening game and was glad to see her side correct them in the crucial second game to grab the win.

“We had a lot of individual play but at the break, the boss reminded us that we are a team, we started sharing the ball and it bore fruits,” Lynda noted.

Strathmore head coach Ronnie Owino hailed his opponent for a sensational second half comeback, admitting that they are one of the toughest side to face.

“Our defense has let us down and we have also lost several chances under the ring but again Zetech are very energetic, they don’t give up,” Owino told Citizen Digital.

Tomorrow’s winner will take on Equity who qualified for the semis after their opponents, Kenyatta University failed to show up in the second match of the playoffs, having lost in the first match.
