Zetech Sparks tactician Harriet
Fakhir is confident of defeating Kibera Soccer Ladies in their Kenyan Women's
Premier League midweek fixture slated for Marist University Grounds.
The students completed the first
round of the league in the seventh position with 15 points following their 2-0
win against Kayole Starlets at Zetech University, Mang'u Campus, on Saturday.
Speaking to Citizen Digital ahead of
the mouthwatering clash, Harriet, who took over the coaching mantle on
September 21, 2024, from his predecessor Bernard Kitolo Nzioki, was fired ahead of
the Wednesday match.
"We kicked off the year in
style by harvesting maximum points against Kayole, and that was a good gesture.
"I'm happy that there is growth in
all our departments, and we have finished the first round having conceded eight
goals, which is half of what we conceded last season, and that shows the
growth."
"I'm looking forward to a good
match against Kibera. Our opponents have improved a lot more so in the last
three matches, where they have impressed, and however they maximize their chances
will win the fixture. I thank God that I have no injuries or doubts."
A win for Zetech will then rise them to
the fifth position with 18 points, four behind the current leaders, Police
Bullets, as Vihiga Queens, Ulinzi Starlets, Trinity Starlets, and Kayole Starlets
complete the top five with 21, 20, 20,20 and 16 points in that order.
Harriet, however, hinted at their
quest to strengthen his side by signing five new players.
"We have embarked on signing
five new faces to replace a similar number of students who graduated last year.
“Being a school team, we face
challenges of students leaving the club when they complete their courses.
“We want to effectively use this
transfer window to ensure we rope in talented players, more so from students who
joined recently.
Among the five who graduated last
season are Violet Akinyi, defender Dolvine Chiteri, and keeper Yvonne Minage.
"I'm urging my players to keep their heads up and heads high; we have the plan that we have been working on.
"Let's go
and give our best and snatch the maximum points. They should not give up at all
and always put God first.
I can also add that I have now fully
settled in with the team since I replaced Nzioki in 2024, and the players have
fit in with my style of play; they know what to do and what to avoid."
