Zoo frustrate KCB, Homeboyz down Sofapaka
KCB FC missed the chance to cut the gap on the FKF Premier League leaders Tusker FC as they drew 1-1 with Zoo FC at the Utalii Grounds on Sunday.
KCB began the matchday on 29 points, seven adrift Tusker who dropped points during Saturday’s 2-2 stalemate at Nairobi City Stars and the Bankers failed to capitalise on that slip as bottom side Zoo fought back to earn a precious point.
After a goalless opening half, KCB took the lead four minutes into the second half through Derrick Otanga who finished from close range after some wonderful work from Reagan Otieno to drive into the area and set him up.
That lead lasted just 15 minutes as Castro Likhanga got on the end of Alex Onchwari’s cross to head home the equaliser.
In Bukhungu, Stephen Opoku’s goal in the 10th minute was enough to hand Kakamega Homeboyz a 1-0 victory over Sofapaka FC and elsewhere in Mumias James Saruni produced a man of the match performance to help side earn an away point from a 1-1 draw against Nzoia United.
Ulinzi got off to a dream start as John Njuguna applied the telling touch on Daniel Waweru’s pinpoint cross in the opening minute to finish beyond goalkeeper Humphrey Katasi.
Nzoia looked to respond instantly and a dangerous ball into the area by Moses Mwale was collected by Saruni before the goalkeeper showed some superb reflexes to thwart Hillary Simiyu from a one-on-one situation.
The hosts were repaid for their brave reaction to going down as James Kibandie stroked home the equaliser from a rebound after had failed to hold on to Mwale’s initial shot.
Ulinzi should have restored their advantage minutes before the break but Masita Masuta could only direct his effort inches wide off the target after he had been picked out by Waweru.
Mark Bikokwa squandered two late chances to put Ulinzi back in front and the visitors were almost made to pay for their wastefulness but Saruni made a superb stop to deny Felicien Okanda in the dying minutes.
