Makwatta left to find more play time, Police TM Maelo says
John Mark Makwata left Police FC to seek more play time, Team Manager George Maelo has said following the forward’s move to FKF Premier League rivals AFC Leopards.
His exit came just six months after he signed for the big spending Police where he has struggled to cement a starting spot.
The former Zesco United player scored twice for the newly promoted side with both goals coming from the penalty spot last October against Nzoia Sugar and KCB FC.
“He was very honest with us and he wanted more playing time which he wasn't guaranteed here due to the high level of competition in his position so we granted him his wish and released him,” Maelo said.
Maelo added the club is close to signing Kenyan international midfielder Francis Kahata who has terminated his contract with Ethiopian side Sidama Coffee Sporting Club with the deal expected to be announced before the weekend.
“He has cleared with his former club and is on his way back to the country. We hope he will sign the deal either today or latest tomorrow,” the former Sofapaka FC captain said.
Other players who are expected to sign for the newly promoted side include former AFC Leopards strikers Elvis Rupia and Paul Were.
“They are training well with the rest of the team and have been impressive so far. I think with Rupia we are at 90% close to making an announcement.”
Police are currently ninth in the league standings with 21 points from 16 games.
