2 female-owned agritech startups shortlisted for continental award

Green Dreams Tech Ltd CEO Susan Kahumbu and iPop Africa Limited’s Dorah Kwamboka Momanyi will be competing in the Female Ag Tech Innovator and Outstanding Value-adding Enterprise categories respectively.

Green Dreams is the creator of iCow, a mobile-based agricultural platform providing farmers services and data to help increase productivity based on good agricultural practices.

Farmers access iCow and receive agricultural content such as agricultural inputs, finances and veterinary advice via SMS. 

iPop Africa on the other hand is focused on healthy snacking through transforming grains into healthy edible snacks that are oil-free.

Ms Kahumbu and Ms Momanyi were selected from a total of 1478 applicants from 38 African countries and should they emerge winners, they will each receive a $20,000 (Ksh.2.4 million) cash prize.

Launched in 2021, the awards ​​recognise established and emerging women in agribusiness who have demonstrated remarkable innovation in their businesses by having an impact on food security, climate resilience, women and youth empowerment.

The awards are split across three categories; Young Female Agripreneur, Outstanding Value-Adding Enterprise, and Female Agriculture Technology Innovator.

The winners will be announced during the AGRF Summit at the First Ladies’ Special Event on 7 September in Kigali, Rwanda, and will be graced by First Ladies from across the continent.
