Google has opened applications for the eighth Start-ups Accelerator Africa program cohort.

The cohort will focus on ventures leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning to address critical challenges and unlock new opportunities across the continent.

“We're seeking Seed to Series A tech start-ups based in Africa or those developing Africa-centric solutions. We are particularly interested in start-ups addressing critical areas such as healthcare, education, agriculture, finance, and sustainability,” Google said in a blog post on Monday.

Google for Start-ups Accelerator Africa is a three-month, equity-free virtual program that provides African start-ups with mentorship, technical resources, and access to a global network of experts and investors.

The eighth cohort runs from June to September and start-ups get equity-free support of up to $350,000 (Ksh.47 million) in Google Cloud credits.

The ventures will also get guidance from Google AI experts, seasoned entrepreneurs, and industry leaders; as well as in-depth training on AI and machine learning development, product strategy, and scaling.

Other benefits include connections to potential investors, partners, and customers and networking with fellow founders.

Since its inception in 2018, the program has supported 106 start-ups from 17 African countries.

Google says these ventures have collectively raised over $263 million (Ksh.35.5 billion) and created more than 2,800 direct jobs.

Applications close on May 20.
