Samsung unveils Galaxy S23 series in Nairobi

Electronics giant
Samsung on Thursday unveiled the latest Galaxy S smart phones; Galaxy S23
Ultra, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23, in a ceremony held at the Sarit Centre in
Nairobi.
The unveiling
ceremony, graced by Samsung Africa President BS Hong, East Africa MD TS Lee as
well as local distributors and dealers, coincided with the global launch of the
new Galaxy S smart phones which took place in San Francisco, United States.
Some of the
standout features of the new phones include; a high-end high-resolution camera
with new photo features, a longer lasting battery with increased charging
speeds and an exclusive chip among others.
“Our 2022 MX
business performance was strengthened by strong sales of our premium
smartphones, including sustained performance from the Galaxy S22 series and
best-ever recorded foldable sales," Samsung Africa President Hong said.
"I am
confident that with the successful launch of our new flagship model, East
Africa will play a leading role in driving the success for Africa this year.”
The new lineup
comes in four nature-inspired matte hues: Phantom Black, Cream, Green and
Lavender and will be available for pre-order from February 2 to February 28,
2023.
Safaricom
customers who pre-order the Galaxy S23 Ultra will receive an automatic upgrade
from a 256 GB to 526 GB device storage worth Ksh.20,000 and 10 GB data each month
for a year.
According to
Samsung, customers that pre-order the Galaxy S23+ and the Galaxy S23 will
receive a free silicone case as well as 10GB data each month for one year.
"The Galaxy
S23 Ultra, Galaxy S23+ and Galaxy S23 will also be eligible for Samsung Care+,
which offers among other things 1-year free screen protection . The pre-order
will be available at all authorized Samsung Dealer stores," Mr. Hong said.
The Samsung Galaxy
S23 Ultra 512 GB will set back consumers Ksh.209,999 while the Galaxy S23 Ultra
256 GB will retail at Ksh.195,999.
The Galaxy S23+
256 GB will cost Ksh.154,999 while the Galaxy S23 256 GB will go for
Ksh.135,999.
The new lineup of
Galaxy S phones will be available at all authorised dealer stores, including
Safaricom shops, from March 1,2023.
According to
Samsung Electronics East Africa Director of Mobile Experience Charles Kimari,
the electronic giant is seeking avenues to increase inclusivity and
affordability for its consumers so that they can acquire the new Galaxy S
phones.
"One of the
ways we are doing this is through strategic partnerships with finance partners.
We already have a working agreement with KCB and Safaricom as the first two
official device financing partners and are working on getting more partners on
board to allow more Kenyans to acquire our devices at a pace that works for
them," he said during the launch.
"These
strategic partnerships are what we believe will shape the device acquisition
landscape in Kenya."
