8 Ethiopian aliens charged in Nyeri court for being in Kenya illegally
Eight Ethiopians were on Thursday
arraigned before a Nyeri court and charged with being in the country unlawfully
contrary to section 53(2) of the Kenyan Citizenship and Immigration Act of
2011.
The 7 men and one woman namely are; Dalian Yemane, Adunia Desta, Tamre
Tumebo, Mogos Misganu, Arasu Uanis, Haben Gide, Filmon Tewelde, and Yeal Asefa.
They were arrested on December 28, 2021 on the Nanyuki-Marua road at KCC
junction in Kiganjo, Nyeri County, aboard a Toyota Wish vehicle.
Appearing before Senior Principal Magistrate James Macharia, all the 8 accepted
the charge, with Yemane acting as their translator since the others could not understand English.
In their mitigation, and on their behalf, Yemane said that they fled
their country due to the ongoing war and entered Kenya on foot through
Moyale and were on their way to seek refuge at the Dadaab Refugee Camp.
They were fined Ksh.150,000 each or serve 9 months in prison then be
repatriated back to their country.
