The family of Jackson Temagura alleged the boy died of intestinal obstruction, a condition they claim could have been treated if doctors had attended to him promptly.
Normal operations at the hospital were temporarily disrupted with the family demanding that the perpetrators be held accountable.
According to the family, Jackson was taken in from Kolowa Hospital at 8pm on Monday, but was told that the X-ray machine was broken. They were forced to go to a private hospital for treatment, which led to a delay in treatment. Despite being admitted at 6pm, they say he was not given emergency surgery and died at 9.30am.
The hospital’s superintendent, Dr. Gerrishon Abakalwa, said that lack of equipment and overcrowding hampered the services. He said that an investigation has been launched and action will be taken against anyone found guilty.
