Lake Victoria.

Bodies of two fishermen who drowned after their boat capsized in Lake Victoria have been retrieved.

The incident happened near Rambira beach in Rachuonyo North sub-county three days ago.

The bodies of Meshack Ochuma, 32, and his colleague Pius Bura, 42, were found by fishermen conducting a search alongside officers from Kenya Coastguard Service.

Homa Bay County Beach Management Unit vice chairperson Tom Guda said the search for the missing men kicked off on Friday.

“I urge the government to provide quality lifejackets for fishermen in Lake Victoria to avert such cases in future,” Guda said.

The two bodies were found floating a few meters from the point where their boat capsized after it was hit by strong waves.

The bodies have been moved to Simbiri mortuary.
