The body of a man who went missing in Rongo was on Monday found in River Kuja, in Oyombe village, within Migori County.

Fred Ochieng, aged 32 years, went missing on December 26, 2022.

According to the wife, Nancy Akoth, she left her husband at home on the said day to attend a burial of one of their kin, and that's the last time she saw him alive.

“I returned home four days later from the funeral, but I didn’t find him at home, only for his body to be found in the river several days later,” said Akoth.

“My husband was in very good spirits when I left home, he even asked me for some Sh100, which I gave him before leaving,” she added.

She added: “I thought that he may have gone to visit some of our relatives in the surrounding villages, only to receive the disturbing report that his body had been found in the river.”

According to the brother, Mr. Maurice Otieno, the deceased may have drowned while trying to cross the river.

“My brother had a penchant for alcohol, and we suspect that he may have slipped and fell into the river,” said Otieno.

The body of the deceased was discovered by members of the public who were crossing the river.

Oyombe village elder Mr. Charles Owuor confirmed the incident, adding that they were working with the police from Rongo Sub County to find out what may have happened.

The body was taken to Rosewood Nursing Home mortuary in Rongo.
