A 20-year-old man escaped the wrath of irate Kapsinendet area residents in Chepalungu, Bomet County after they razed down his premises on allegations that he was a witch.

According to Chepalungu sub-county police boss Nelson Masai, the residents held a gathering at Kapsinendet shopping center on Sunday to deliberate on the supposed witchcraft within their village.

They afterwards descended on the home of the suspect identified as Shadrack Chepkwony, burning down two houses and his shop.

One of the area residents who sought anonymity said the victim has been behind a series of sorcery and witchcraft, and has also lured five people into joining the practice.

He claimed that several households in the village have so far lost their dairy cows over the practice.

However, Masai stated that investigations into the ordeal have kicked off and those behind the attack will be arrested and arraigned.

He further warned members of the public against taking laws in their hands.
