A church in Murang’a county is attracting attention because of its choice of name - and theme colour.

The church, located in Kabati area, a few metres off Kenol-Nairobi highway, has been attracting curious looks from both residents and visitors.

Some of the residents who spoke to Wananchi Reporting said that the “Bottom Up New Akurinu Ministry” is hard to miss.

It’s choice of yellow, as its theme colour, has only heightened interesting debate among the residents.

“Bottom Up” was a slogan by the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, a name it carried during the last elections, and which is now a UDA government 'mantra'.

Bishop Kiama Gachanja, the founder of the church, told Wananchi Reporting that his ministry has nothing to do with politics.

“I do not want any political favours. I chose the name because it suits our message as a church,” said Gachanja.

“I wonder why the name of my church is exciting Kenyans. The name has been around for nearly one year now,” he added.

According to Gachanja, the church attendance swings between 20 and 30 members.
