The family of the first wife of Chrisandus Sifuna had already made preparations and dug the grave on Wednesday, when the family of the second wife caused a fracas.
Drama started as preparations were being made for the burial service, with the children of the second wife refusing to release the casket with the remains of Sifuna, saying they wanted the body buried on a different property.
The family said it was their father's wish to be buried on a different property which he had bought, rather than the one that had been prepared by the first wife.
One of the children of the first wife, Sarah Mulongo, said, "Culture does not allow for burial on bought property. It needs to be done on his ancestral home."
The ceremony came to a halt as both parties refused to cede ground.
Efforts by elders in the community to intervene were futile.
