Residents from Endo ward in Marakwet Mashariki constituency, Elgeyo Marakwet county, held demonstrations to protest against the stalling of construction of the Kilangata-Tot-Kupasi River road that started two years ago.

The locals marched to the offices of the contractor on Monday, demanding that the road be completed.

They said that according to timelines given, the project is supposed to be completed in the next two months, however, the contractor has left the site with less than 50% of the work done.

The project began in 2021.

“We demand that the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) intervenes and get an alternative contractor to complete the project,” the locals said.

"We have done our research and found that the reason this project stalled is because the contractor has failed to execute it, despite all things being put in place to ensure it is done."

The residents have also raised the alarm over spread of sexually transmitted infections, citing promiscuity among workers on the project.
