Embu: Man collapses and dies inside hotel, just before ordering food

Police in Embu are investigating circumstances surrounding the death of a middle aged man inside a hotel in Runyenjes market on Wednesday afternoon, August 17.

The deceased who has been identified as one Mr. Nyaga from Ndagkira village, is alleged to have collapsed and died moments after entering the said hotel.

The incident was confirmed by the Embu East Sub county police commander Emmanuel Okanda.

The hotel staff and other customers are said to have tried to save his life by conducting simple first aid – but failed.

"I remember seeing him walking into the hotel, and took a seat. Then he suddenly fell down from the seat even before he could say a word or order any food,” said one of the hotel attendants.

"So, we carried him outside, in the open, hoping that he could recover only for him to be pronounced dead by the police who arrived shortly," added the attendant.

The incident has left traders at the Runyenjes market in shock.

“The deceased was a very peaceful man and had many friends in the area,” said one of the traders at the market.

The body was collected by officers from the Runyenjes police station.

"The man is known around here, and his body has since been taken to Kyeni Mission Hospital mortuary awaiting post mortem examination," noted officer Okanda.

Police have begun investigations into the incident.
