Faith-based hospitals in Kirinyaga decry struggles in operations, cite mounting debt

Speaking at Kimicha Anglican Church of Kenya on Thursday, Diocese of Kirinyaga Bishop Joseph Karimi Kibucwa claimed that delayed remittances from SHA have left private and faith-based hospitals struggling financially.

Bishop Kibucwa stated that ACK Mt Kenya Hospital in Kerugoya is owed more than KSh 60 million. He said the hospital recently received KSh 2.6 million from SHA’s Nairobi office, an amount he described as inadequate to sustain operations.

“We are demanding KSh 60 million to enable us to continue offering services to our patients without interruptions,” Bishop Kibucwa said.

He urged the government to clear outstanding debts owed to private and faith-based hospitals, warning that delays could affect access to healthcare. “We are being told the economy is improving. Where is the SHA money?” he asked.
