Farmers from Mt Kenya call for action over pile up of coffee in factories
Speaking at a stakeholders’ forum that included coffee society representatives from Embu , Tharaka Nithi and Meru counties, they said a crisis is looming and urged the government offload coffee bags in KPCU and factory stores.
Kenya Coffee Producer Association Chairperson Peter Gikonyo said, “The government needs to act fast to evade the looming crisis.”
Farmers said they fear losing millions.
The crisis arose as a result of the government embarking on reforming the sector to improve payments to farmers and dilute the power of multinational buyers.
