Form four girl commits suicide while dressed in school uniform

A sombre mood has engulfed a family in Namawanga area in Kitale town, Trans Nzoia county, following the sudden death of a young, bubbly high school girl on Thursday 9.

The body of the 19-year-old Form Four student from St Augustines Bidii High school in Kwanza constituency was found dangling from the roof of the house at dawn, in apparent suicide act.

It appears the girl woke up early, dressed herself up ready for school, but she would not leave the house.

Her sister Wanjiku Wangechi told Wananchi Reporting that her sister was getting ready to sit for her final exams later in the year, adding that she had not shown any signs of distress, or that she was contemplating suicide.

"We are shocked following the untimely demise of my sister. We knew she had a little bit of issues with school, but we did not see it getting to this far," she narrated.

She said that her sister was a young jovial teen who interacted well with the other siblings terming her death a big blow the the family.

The deceased is said to have left behind a suicide note written '"nimechoka na maisha na leo ndio siku yangu ya mwisho".

Locals led by church elder Kinyua Gitau have asked youths to seek help whenever they are facing difficulties in life.

"Our youths are undergoing various challenges in life, and we need to treat this with urgency. I urge the Ministry of Education to ensure that every school has at least a councillor," said Gitau.

The same sentiments were echoed by neighbours who said that they were in disbelief upon receiving the sad news at dawn.

DCI officers from Kitale who picked the body from the scene have launched investigations into the death.

The body of the deceased was moved to Kitale Hospital county morgue for postmortem examination.
