Gatundu: Woman’s body found floating in new dam

Kariminu II dam in Gatundu North sub-county.

A body of a woman was on Sunday morning found floating on the deep waters of the newly completed Kariminu II dam.

Police have since identified the body as that of Ms. Veronica Muthoni from the surrounding Miiri Village.

“The woman hailed from Kairi village, and according to information we have, she had a history of failed suicide attempts, and may have been struggling with mental issues,” noted Gatundu North sub-county Police Commander Ellen Wanjiku.

The officer noted that her office has launched investigations to establish what exactly transpired.

The incident left residents of the quiet village in shock, with the discovery of Muthoni's body bringing to two the number of bodies that have so far been retrieved from the newly completed dam.

The residents also noted that prolonged water shortage has forced them to fetch water for domestic use from the Sh24 billion dam.

The body of the deceased was retrieved by divers from Kiambu county, and was taken to the General Hospital Kago mortuary.
