According to the police, the body of Mary Kwamboka Ogechi, was discovered by her friend and neighbour at around 11am on Sunday.
Ms. Ogechi worked at a private health facility in Rodi Kopany town centre, within Homa Bay Town constituency.
The neighbour told the police that she became suspicious when she went to visit her friend only to find the door locked from outside.
“The neighbour peeped through the window and saw the lifeless body of her friend lying in a pool of blood, and that is when she raised alarm,” said the police.
Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigation Officer (DCIO) Abed Kavoo said the deceased may have been stabbed to death by her lover the previous night.
“Our officers are looking into the incident, but we suspect the murder may have been carried out by her boyfriend,” he said, noting that the boyfriend has gone into hiding, and could not be traced.
Adding: “The woman had deep cuts on her neck and face indicating that she was stabbed with a kitchen knife before the assailant locked the door from outside and disappeared.”
Police recovered a kitchen knife stained with blood at the scene.
The police are making every effort to hunt down the suspect as they continue with their investigations.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased was taken to Homa Bay County Hospital morgue.
