Husband detained for allegedly stabbing young wife to death

A 23-year-old woman was on Tuesday afternoon reportedly stabbed to death by her estranged husband at the Manjilil village in Simoti location, Konoin sub county, Bomet.

Simoti location chief Winrose Chepkemoi confirmed the incident.

Police officers from Konoin police station were informed and rushed to the scene.

"The body of the deceased, identified as Caren Chebet, was found lying face down near a tea plantation.

“The body had deep stab wounds on the chest and back, and a kitchen knife, believed to be the murder weapon, was recovered found next to the body," said the chief.

A villager said he heard screams coming from near the plantation, only to rush and find the deceased with the kitchen knife stuck on her back.

It was then that he tried to rescue her by performing First Aid, but she unfortunately succumbed to her injuries.

Police heard that the main suspect, Franklin Cheruiyot Langat, alias Brian, aged 26 years, and who was the husband to the deceased, was reportedly seen running away from the scene of the incident.

The suspect was later arrested by police at Chongweno village, about 15 kilometres away from the scene. He was reportedly found hiding inside a tea plantation.

The suspect was taken to Konoin police station as police continue with their investigation.

The body of the deceased was taken to Kapkatet sub county hospital mortuary for preservation and awaiting postmortem.
