Residents of Kajiado County are at their wit's end as liquor shops, bars, and restaurants continue to disregard county noise control directives.

Despite clear instructions issued a month ago by the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water Services, Environment, Natural Resources, and Climate Change, Dr. Leina Mpoke, mandating the soundproofing of all sources of sound and excessive noise, and giving a strict ultimatum for establishments to comply or relocate from residential areas within 30 days, several establishments have continued to operate as usual, causing persistent disturbance for local residents.

In Ongata Rongai sub county, a chain of liquor shops situated between Laiser Lorato and Annex Apartments and other night clubs near the Exiting area and parts of Rongai, have been a particular source of frustration for residents, who have been complaining about the incessant noise, particularly during night time hours, for years now.

Allegations have surfaced that both the police and county officials are turning a blind eye to the violations.

The establishments have also been a source of insecurity as residents have made report to the police regarding mugging incidents at night.

"We have been suffering from sleepless nights for years due to the noise coming from these establishments," one resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said.

"It's disheartening that despite the county's clear directives, nothing has changed. Our complaints are falling on deaf ears."

There have also been complaints from residents of Kiserian, Ngong and Kitengela towns.

The residents are asking the Kajiado County government to take action against establishments that propagate noise pollution.
