Kakamega man hits brother to death in fight over Omena

A man is being held by police in Kakamega County after he allegedly hit his brother to death over a serving of fingerlings, popularly known as Omena.

The incident saw the suspect descend on his 56-year-old brother in Kambi Elijah village in Likuyani Constituency.

The siblings, Albert Adamba and John Kilibwa, were sharing a meal at their mother's house before they disagreed over a portion of the delicacy.

Their elder brother Vincent Misango added that a war of words ensued pitting the two against each other. Adamba overpowered Kilibwa, flooring him in the battle to fix their insatiable hunger.

"It is a sad state of affairs, given that they fought at their mother's house at their age. We now have a mountain out of a small matter," Jimmy Ngwayumba, a village elder, said.

Kilibwa sustained injuries during the fight and was rushed to Turbo Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival at.

Area Assistant Chief Moses Wanjala said the suspect is being held at Likuyani Police Station pending his arraignment.
