Kericho: Birthday celebration ends tragically as man drowns at Chesumot Resort

A birthday celebration turned tragic after a middle-aged man drowned in a water pan at Chesumot Resort in Kapsaos Ward, Ainamoi constituency, on Monday evening.

According to friends of the deceased, he had visited the resort to celebrate his birthday.

Upon arrival, he engaged with friends, took photos together and then went on a boat ride in the man-made water pan.

While attempting to get onto the boat, the man accidentally slipped into the water and drowned.

His friends raised an alarm, drawing the attention of resort management, who mobilised a rescue effort.

Unfortunately, the divers were initially overwhelmed by the depth of the water pan, leading to a postponement of the search to Tuesday.

Expert divers were mobilised on Tuesday, and after a full day of searching, they successfully retrieved the body in the evening.

The incident was reported to Brooke Police Station, where officers responded and took the body to Kericho County Referral Hospital mortuary.
