The  family of a 20-year-old lady in Kirinyaga County who was shot dead in Githurai,Nairobi, during Saba Saba protests  wants the government to intervene following postmortem confusion which they accuse police officers of.

According to Jephita Njagi Kariuki, the father of Jackline Nyawira, he said the family has been unable to conduct a postmortem.

"I want to bury my daughter but her body is still at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital mortuary because police are taking us round in circles. I have gone to Githurai 44 but police officers told me I should seek help from Kasarani police station," he said.

He continued, "When I go to Kasarani police station, they have told me to go back to Githurai 44 police station. When will I bury my daughter?"

According to Nyawira's mother, Purity Nyawira, her daughter was employed in a cyber cafe in Githurai 44 but her workplace was not open during Sabasaba Day protests.

"Her employer told us that she was shot while standing at the balcony of her flat," she said.

Residents of Mukithi  and the surrounding villages in Kanyekiine ward, led by Jesse  Muthike  , speaking on Friday night while preparing for the burial, said they are still waiting for communication from police in Nairobi for the postmortem date so that they can know when they will bury Jackline Nyawira.

"We are calling for our elected  leaders' intervention," Muthike said.
