Residents of Ndiuni, Ndeiya and Kamandura villages in Limuru, Kiambu County, can breathe a sigh of relief after street lights were installed, ending years of darkness in the area.
Residents said there had been a rise in insecurity that had paralysed their economic activities.
Women were worst affected and had to return to their homes early to avoid being assaulted.
With installation of the new lighting system, the residents, led by Josephine Waitherero said they will  embrace a 24/hour working economy and with increased business activities.
Njoki Thuo, James Ngugi among other locals regretted that the villages were neglected on matters development decrying that besides darkness, other key economic developments such as roads and water have remained fodder that politicians use every electioneering period only to desert the villages after clinching elective positions.

While lauding Wainaina for the development, the locals urged the incoming leadership to concentrate on improving the lives of common citizenry.

Wainaina on his part said the initiative is part of his 20,000 street lights program that seeks to revolutionize business operations in the county.

Wainaina stated that besides the project, his hopeful government will prioritize water supply for irrigation activities to ensure that every village has capacity to feed itself and sell surplus to other parts of the country.

Wainaina is seeking the position held by incumbent governor James Nyoro against others among them William Kabogo, Moses Kuria, Kimani Wamatangi, Juliet Kimemia and Mwende Gatabaki.
