A middle-aged man was beaten to death by a mob on suspicion he had stolen two motorbikes in Matungu area, Kakamega county.

The unidentified man was reportedly found in possession of two motorcycles – both of which were discovered hidden in his house.

The area boda boda association chairman Justus Okwero Oduori decried the rising cases of motorcycle theft in the small town.

Oduori said: “The two motorbikes that had been stolen were found hidden inside the suspect’s house.”

“It was then that angry residents dragged the suspect from his house and frog-matched him all the way to Ogalo Shopping Centre,” said Oduori – adding that the suspect was beaten to death by the mob.

The body was later collected by the police – and taken to the morgue.

Residents and boda boda operators in the area have asked the police to enhance security in the town.
