A 35-year-old man is undergoing treatment after he was attacked by marauding elephants on the border of Bomet and Narok Counties.

Sigor ward MCA Peter Mutai said the injured man encountered a herd of six elephants at Lelaitich area.

"We suspect that the elephant are from the Maasai Mara Game Reserve," Mutai said. They believe the jumbos were in search of water amid the ongoing drought that has hit various counties across the country.

The injured man was cornered by the  elephants in his homestead. He sustained injuries in the leg and his right hand.

"He has been rushed to Longisa Referral  hospital in Bomet county for treatment," Mutai added.

Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS)Assistant director Narok County Osman Ibrahim confirmed the incident saying the animals were following their usual route from Mau forest when the incident happened.

"It's normal for the elephants to take such paths during this season. We are appealing to the residents  to inform KWS whenever they spot the animals to avoid cases of human-wildlife conflict. We have dispatched a helicopter to help drive them back" added Osman.
