Man kills grandmother, injures grandfather by stabbing in Embu
Police in Embu West sub-county are detaining
a 30-year-old man accused of stabbing his grandparents at Runganga village, in
an incident that left his 75-year-old grandmother Jonnes Wamai dead.
The suspect, Daniel Gitonga, is said to have
committed the gruesome act on Monday night after allegedly gaining access to
the victims’ bedroom via a window; preliminary investigations show that there
were no signs of forceful entry.
Gitonga’s grandfather, Wamai Njaga, 80, is
however recuperating at Embu Level V Hospital.
According to Beatrice Muthoni, the victims'
daughter-in-law, neighbours raised alarm after hearing the ensuing commotion at
the victims’ house.
A manhunt for the suspect, Assistant Chief
Joseph Nyaga says, was launched after his phone was discovered at the crime
scene by first responders.
Nyaga also claims that the suspect allegedly
visited the home of one of the victims’ daughters without a shirt on Tuesday at
2am hence the founded suspicion.
Gitonga is currently being held at Manyatta
Police Station as investigations into the matter continue while the deceased’s
body has since been moved to Embu Level V Hospital morgue.
