Residents of Awendo, Migori County have urged the government to complete a stalled power project.

Speaking to Citizen Digital, locals in Siany, South Sakwa said the project has stalled for more than five years.

“We have been in darkness for years yet there is a power connection project that has stalled,” residents, led by Martin Ondong, said.

Ondong said the power line should be operational so that the community can benefit from it.

“We therefore appeal to the government to connect our region to the national grid,” residents added.

They added that lack of electricity has slowed development since locals cannot invest in businesses that rely on power.

“It is unfortunate that some areas are yet to get connected, 60 years after independence,” another noted.

Locals also added that cases of insecurity are on the rise due to the situation.
