A mud marathon, given the portmanteau 'mudthon' was held in Embu to promote mental health and conservation.

The event was organised by Camp Ndunda Falls, a recreation park managed by the Njukiri Community Forest Association, and held deep in the forest, with participants experiencing the slopes of Mt Kenya.

Francis Murimi, the chairman of the Njukiri Community Forest Association (CFA) said funds raised from the activities at Camp Ndunda Falls have helped restore the forest, which had been destroyed by illegal loggers and other encroachers.

He said the terrain and obstacles in the forest are good for promoting mental well-being and exercise that leaves one relaxed through the scenic nature trail.

The participants were required to run through 25 obstacles in the forest that included a Bale bound, a well swing, jumping over the fire, Devil's beard, where one would crawl under the net and slither their way to the end before going to a mud slide and swimming through the muddy tunnels.

The oldest participant, Emmanuel Kagamu aged 58 years, attempted all the obstacles and was awarded for his efforts and courage.
