Nyandarua: Students forced to wade through river after bridge collapse

The residents have been forced to continue using the broken bridge connecting the two villages despite the fact that it poses serious danger to users.

According to the residents, the bridge has broken down severally in the past after logs and pieces of wood used to make it gave way due to vagaries of weather.

Users, among them learners from both Muti-ini primary and Muti-ini secondary schools, have often been forced to wade through the waters when heading to and from school daily - with the cold waters numbing their legs.

“At times we are forced to hire bodaboda or taxis to ferry our children to school which is very costly as it takes a longer route,” said Peter Kamunya, one of area residents.

Most learners, especially those in ECDE classes have been forced to abandon school as they are unable to cross the river.

The residents are now calling on their leaders to help build a better bridge which will serve them for a longer time.
