Locals in Okuleu in Teso North Constituency, Busia County have raised concern about the government's failure to provide them with electricity and clean water.

Residents said that the area, which has a population of over four hundred families, has lagged behind in terms of development.

"We have complained about this issue for a long time but our pleas have had no impact since there is no electricity in our area.

Led by Martin Ikedi, Sarah Otei, and Patrick Etee, they stated that they have never been connected to the grid despite numerous government and partner-funded projects across the country.

"The lack of electricity has severely impacted educational activities in the local schools and has also contributed to an increase in crime," they added.

Further, they noted that young girls and women have fallen victim to sex pests, who have committed heinous acts.

"Cases of sexual assault and abuse of women and girls have also been on a rise following the matter," residents said.

They appealed to Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to intervene.
