Police issue one week ultimatum to illegal gun holders in Trans Nzoia

Police in Trans Nzoia County have issued a one week notice to those in possession of illegal firearms to surrender their weapons.

Trans Nzoia West Deputy County Commissioner Charles Ocharo said the move is aimed at putting an end to frequent attacks in Gitwamba area in Saboti Constituency and its environs.

"We have the names of the illegal gun holders. The disarmament exercise is seventy-five percent complete. We hereby call on those in possession of the said weapons to surrender with immediate effect," Ocharo said.

Area Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Patrick Lobolia claimed that they have information on facilitators of the gangs.

The OCPD also urged residents to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.

The move comes as the county security team embarked on a disarmament operation following a spike in violent crime in the region.
