Police in Kajiado County are holding the driver of a vehicle which was intercepted with over 28,000 litres of suspected uncustomed ethanol.
The consignment was confiscated along the Emali-Loitoktok road by police officers on patrol.
"The driver of the vehicle had disguised the consignment as animal feeds," police told Citizen Digital.
This comes as the country-wide crackdown on contraband and unscrupulous tax evasion schemes spearheaded by the National Police Service gets underway.
On Monday, the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) intercepted a truck carrying 54 drums of uncustomed ethanol at an estimated market value of Ksh10 million.
The consignment was intercepted along the Kacheliba-Makutano route in West Pokot County. The ethanol had a tax implication of at least Ksh.6 million
Ethanol is one of the most commonly smuggled industrial products in the country; and is used in the production of sugar, cosmetics and alcohol.
