Police in Laikipia County on Friday recovered livestock believed to have been stolen from a homestead in Loniek, Kirima Sub-County, by cattle rustlers.

This followed a joint sting operation led by different law enforcement agencies operating in the region.

According to the National Police Service (NPS), the multi-agency team was involved in a fierce exchange of fire with the suspected bandits at Chapelonin Area in Tiaty, prior to recovering the stolen livestock.

"The livestock, nine cows and 18 goats, have since been returned to the owner in Loniek area," said NPS in a statement.

The NPS likewise reiterated its stance on mitigating cattle rustling cases in bandit-prone areas of the country.

"Police remain committed to the fight against banditry and cattle rustling in the country and ensuring lasting peace in the affected areas," said NPS.
