Relief as helicopter rescues expectant mum stranded in ambulance during heavy rains

The rescue mission.

There was relief in Isiolo after an expectant mother from Maldaka village, Garbatula Sub-County, who required an emergency operation was rescued via helicopter after the ambulance ferrying her to Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital got stuck at Kulamawe area due to heavy downpour being witnessed in the region.

The rescue mission was a joint effort by the County Government, Northern Rangelands Trust (NRT) and Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, which provided the aircraft.

The mother had been moved from Malkadaka dispensary to Garbatula Sub County hospital, but doctors realized that she required critical care and she was referred to Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

She was then put in an ambulance that drove towards Isiolo, but due to the heavy rains, sections of the road were impassable at Kulamawe area.

That is when the rescue mission was deployed.

The Medical Superintendent at the Isiolo County Teaching and Referral Hospital Dr. Hussein Abdi Mohamud said, "The patient is in stable condition after delivering via C-section."
