Seven school girls among passengers involved in Nissan Shuttle accident

A group of students from Ngetmoi Girls secondary school, and their teacher, were today involved in a road accident near the Tenges-Kabarnet highway, in Baringo Central.

The school principal Joyce Namasaka confirmed the incident.

The seven students were on board a Nissan Shuttle – alongside other passengers when the accident happened some metres from the school.

Sources say that the students sustained serious injuries, and had to be rushed to the Baringo Referral Hospital alongside other passengers.

“The students had boarded the public service vehicle after we released them to go home and collect school fees,” Namasaka said while speaking at the at Baringo Referral Hospital.

She confirmed that three of the girls were in stable condition, while two are admitted at the hospital.

According to Vincent Kibet who witnessed the incident, the vehicle veered off the road just as it was gaining speed and rolled several times.

“The vehicle had just started its journey from the stage, and had only moved for less than a kilometre when it crashed,” said Kibet.

The teacher who was in the company of the students was rushed to Eldoret Referral Hospital having sustained serious injuries.
