Residents of Red Soil village in Mathangauta sub-location, Nyangati location, Mwea-East sub-county, Kirinyaga County, are reeling in shock after the body of a newborn baby was discovered dumped on a farm.

The infant’s body was found by Margaret Muthoni, who had accompanied a customer to her farm to harvest maize leaves for livestock feed.

Muthoni said she initially mistook the bundle for a sack left behind by suspected thieves targeting her maize crop.

“I screamed and called the buyer, who came with my son. I thought it was a trick by thieves who wanted to steal our maize,” she said.

However, upon closer inspection, they discovered it was the body of a newborn wrapped in a baby shawl.

News of the discovery spread quickly, attracting villagers to the scene. Residents expressed shock and outrage over the incident.

“We want to know who killed this innocent child, who could have grown up to become a great person,” said Morris Murimi, one of the villagers who had gone to buy maize leaves.

Margaret’s son, Francis Muthii, alerted authorities, and officers from Wang’uru Police Station responded to the scene. The body was later moved to Kerugoya County Referral Hospital for further examination.

Police have launched investigations into the incident and urged anyone with information that could assist in identifying those responsible to come forward.

The tragic discovery has left the community mourning and demanding justice for the newborn.
