Residents of Sirongo Beach in Bondo, Siaya County have decried persistent power outage that has left them without electricity for over three months.

Led by the chairperson of Sirongo Beach Management Unit (BMU), Sylvia Achieng’ Odera, the residents voiced their frustrations over the growing insecurity in the area and the disruption of their businesses due to the lack of power.

Sirongo Beach traders’ chairman, Enos Otieno, expressed similar concerns, stating that repeated visits to the Kenya Power offices in Bondo have yielded no results.

He lamented that businesses continue to suffer while lives and property remain vulnerable due to increased insecurity.

“Our efforts to seek assistance have been futile. The ongoing power outage is crippling our livelihoods, and the rising insecurity makes it even more dangerous,” Otieno said.

Residents Paul Omondi Ogendo and Monica Amondi Omolo have urged Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi to intervene and ensure power is restored to allow economic activities to resume.

In addition to the electricity crisis, the locals also highlighted the poor condition of the road linking Bondo to Sirongo Beach, saying it hampers the transportation of fish to Kisumu and further exacerbates their struggles.
