It’s not every day that one gets to hear celebrations in a hospital – but Friday, May 24, brought shared smiles among doctors, staff and even patients along the busy corridors of Mbagathi Hospital.
Mbagathi County hospital, a referral facility for Nairobi Metropolis catchment area, on Friday achieved a historic milestone after a team of doctors successfully performed the first reconstructive plastic surgery.
The complex procedure was conducted by a team of four doctors led by Dr. Chaudry Areeb.
The patient, a 29-year-old male, had what doctors have described as nerve and vascular blunt injury on the left hand.
"The patient was referred and admitted at Mbagathi Hospital on Thursday, May 23, 2024, for surgery,” said Dr. Areeb.
Adding that: “He was experiencing incessant joint inflammation. He was examined with the aid of the newly installed CT-Scan and admitted for reconstructive plastic surgery, which took three hours to perform.”
The facility's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr Alexander Irungu acknowledged the value of the high-end equipment and the refurbishment of theaters as well as upgrading of essential equipment critical for diagnosis.
This is good news for residents of Nairobi who may need such interventions in future, thereby enhancing the health and wellbeing of residents of Nairobi County.
