Grief has engulfed a family in Mwea East after a 15-year-old Grade 8 pupil was found dead, a week after he was reported missing.

Samuel Muriuki, who was a pupil at Rupingazi Primary School in Kirinyaga County, disappeared last week, prompting his family to launch an extensive search.

According to the South Ngariama administration, the family had not formally reported the matter to Itangi Police Station, even as they continued to look for him.

His body was later retrieved from River Rupingazi by police officers from Kiritiri in Embu County and Itangi in Kirinyaga County. The body was taken to Embu Level 5 Hospital mortuary.

A local resident said the family had been actively searching for the boy, noting that he had previously gone missing and was later found safe. Family members recorded statements at Itangi Police Station before positively identifying the body at the Embu mortuary.

News of the boy's death left the school fraternity and community at large in shock.

The circumstances surrounding Samuel’s death remain unclear, and police have urged anyone with information to come forward to assist with investigations.
