Two police officers are recovering in hospital after a suspect they attempted to arrest turned violent and assaulted them during a dramatic confrontation in Bungoma County.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon in Stabicha village, within Sirisia sub-county, when three officers from Namwela Police Post were dispatched to apprehend a man accused of malicious damage to property.
According to police reports and eyewitness accounts, the suspect resisted arrest and attacked the officers, biting one on the shoulder and another on the hand.
The sudden aggression left the officers nursing injuries, prompting their immediate evacuation to Kaptenai Dispensary.
They were later referred to Sirisia Sub-County Hospital for specialized treatment. Medical staff confirmed that the officers are in stable condition.
The third officer, who was not injured in the scuffle, managed to subdue and arrest the suspect.
“He will face multiple charges, including malicious damage, assaulting police officers, and resisting lawful arrest,” said the police.
Authorities say the suspect is being held in custody and will be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
